Xinyue Liu is a visual artist and filmmaker who often recycles and reuses objects as placeholders for unresolved memories. In weaving together fragmented narratives and moving images, Liu’s practice investigates issues of displacement, intimacy, and nostalgia. She is fascinated by the renegotiation of past and present that unfolds when she searches for and handles found objects, archives, and readymade knickknacks. Her work is inherently informed by her upbringing and familial relationships. In contemplating the meaning of being far away from one’s roots, she employs fictional storytelling as a method for reconciliation.
