How do I get from Steveston Village to Britannia Shipyards?

From Steveston Village, head east to reach the Shipyards at 5180 Westwater Drive along the harbour. It will be a 15 minute walk, or 5-10 minutes by vehicle or bicycle.

Are you associated with the FreshCo Richmond Dragon Boat Festival?

While the FreshCo Richmond Dragon Boat Festival is also taking place in Steveston on Saturday, we are not in any way associated with them. However, we most definitely welcome visitors to come check us out and join in on our programming while you are in the area!

What are other ways to get to the Festival?

The Richmond Discovery Shuttle is a free shuttle service that can bring you from downtown Richmond directly to Steveston. While there is normally a stop at Britannia Shipyards, over the festival weekend this will be moved to the north entrance of Homma Elementary.

Otherwise, you can also take public transportation from the Canada Line Brighouse station and take a short walk from these stops: Take bus #401, 406 and 407 get off at Imperial Landing or bus #402 get off at Moncton Street.

How accessible is the Festival?

There will be a designated Sensory Free Space in the Visitor Centre. Sensory kits can be signed out for use during the festival at the information booth at “Port of Call”.

A limited number of accessible parking spaces will be available on site at Westwater Drive, at the south end of Railway Avenue.

All heritage buildings open during Richmond Maritime Festival are accessible. Do note that the wooden boardwalk and wooden flooring inside the Seine Net Loft and Richmond Boat Builders may be uneven.

Accessible washrooms are available in the public washroom behind the Visitor Centre. Accessible porta-potties are available by the west entrance and behind Murakami House.

Due to the extreme incline of the dock during low tide, wheelchair access will be available only from 4pm to 6pm, at the guest’s own discretion. Visitors with mobility issues may view the boats from an accessible viewing area on the Seine Net Loft deck.

Where can I find a high-res version of the festival site map?

You can download the PDF here.

Where can I find a schedule of the programming that will be taking place?

Do you have any tips for visiting with young children?
  • Strollers can be used throughout most of the site, although it can get crowded at times. Please note that strollers are not allowed on the ramps or the dock. You may park strollers outside the Dock Entrance (Seine Net Loft building). While the second floor of the Chinese Bunkhouse is not accessible by stroller, all other buildings are stroller-friendly.
  • A change table is available in the accessible stall of the public washrooms located behind the Visitor Centre, or in the Seine Net Loft accessible washroom. Please ask a staff member for access.
  • When viewing the boats on the docks, please keep small children close as there are no railings, and the dock may shift slightly with passing boats. Hold your child’s hand at all times.
Is there a quiet spot if we feel over-stimulated?
  • Visit the Visitor Centre to borrow a sensory kit. Our staff can also help you find a quiet, shady spot to rest.
Can we bring food and drink into the heritage buildings?
  • To protect our exhibits, artefacts, and heritage flooring, we kindly ask that you enjoy your food and drinks in our designated outdoor picnic areas. Food and beverages are not allowed inside the heritage buildings.
