Weaving Workshop with Spelexilh, Anjeanette Dawson
I am an Indigenous Educator, Traditional Wool Weaver, Cultural Worker. I facilitate workshops in the areas of Pre-contact, colonization, Residential School History and the affects, wool weaving, culture, loss of language and the successes of the Squamish people.
I have my master’s in education and work with schools across the lower mainland sharing my knowledge, teaching, and lived experiences.
I was one of ten women that revived Wool Weaving in our community in 2004. I have created tunics, a blanket that hangs in the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler, BC, two blankets that hang in the Indigenous Atrium at Simon Fraser University, I made the fur collared wool shawl that was used in during the Opening Ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC, I have had numerous commissions creating blankets, sashes for ceremonial purposes, headbands and wool woven quarter bags.
I enjoy sharing my gifts with others from the youngest to the oldest, working towards Reconciliation and sharing who I am, where I come from as an Indigenous person.
